Promises Made, Promises Kept
In 2010, I made promises based upon my "Big 4". The four initiatives were: Family, Strategic Plan, Growth and Transparency. How did I do??
1. Family
Student Learning
Parents, families, and community members play an integral role in assisting student learning at all grade levels.
(Active with Early Childhood Task Force and International Baccalaureate) - PASS
Communication
Communication between home and school is consistent, two-way, and meaningful.
(Constant requests on improving RP Update. Staff has made great strides on improving format. Increase in social media usage. Planned website refresh)-Planned Commitment
Volunteering
Parents, families and community members are welcome in the school and their support and assistance are sought.
Upon beginning my School Board tenure in 2010, there were (0) Watch D.O.G.S. programs in the district. Currently, we have the program in place in all district school (excluding the high school). I was part of the inagural program at the middle school. - PASS
Educator/Staff Development
Personnel training (pre-service and in-service) includes courses and workshops on parent, family, and community involvement.
(As one of the leading PLC (Professional Learning Communities in the state, staff development will remain a strategic district initiative) - Pass
2. Strategic Plan
Implemented a District Balanced Scorecard, developed originally for business, that will be used for measuring the district's health that will employ data not only to measure past performance, but to assess how well the district is positioned for the future. - Pass
3. Growth Initiatives
Overcrowding
Long Range Facility Planning. The District is updating its Long Range Facility Plan to guide facility development efforts in the coming years) - Pass
4. Transparency
Trust must be earned and sustained
(My personal pledge was to be accessible, listen, communicate and be sensitive to the impact of our actions on stakeholders. I made it a point, every year, to visit every principal and ask one question.."What's on you heart"? Though simple, it meets all points in my pledge as a school board member. I may have a vote, but they have a voice. This has also been my approach for teachers and parents across this district) - Pass
